This label is on TexCare® bottles. What guarantee does it provide?
The labeling scheme with products declared with TexCare’s “Allergy Label” symbol is intended as a help for consumers who want to use products that make sense from an allergy perspective. The scheme is for both those who are allergic and those who want to prevent allergies.
All ingredients must be listed on the label so that you can read whether the product contains the substance that you (perhaps) know you cannot tolerate. Today, there are no legal requirements for such a declaration for, e.g., washing powder.
Around 5000 different fragrances are found and used in perfume. Some are natural fragrances extracted from, for example, plants, mosses, and wood. Others are chemically produced. You can become allergic to both the natural and the chemically produced fragrances. "Naturally" produced perfume can therefore be just as allergenic as chemically produced. The allergy label guarantees the product is free of perfume.
All substances used must have a technical function.
All substances are used in concentrations that minimize the risk of developing allergies, but it is not possible to make allergy-proof products. It is often the concentration of a substance that determines whether it can be allergenic.
Some substances are known to cause allergies even in very low concentrations. These substances are not used in products labeled with TexCare's Allergy label. This means that there is no perfume, optical brightener, nickel, or chromium in declared products, and that the preservatives used are tested for allergens.
The declarations do not mean that you cannot develop allergies to some of the ingredients, as you can, in principle, develop allergies to all substances, including natural products. However, the declaration ensures that substances that are not known to be particularly allergenic have been used, and the substances are in concentrations that minimize the risk of allergy.
Today, it is not allowed to declare a product as "allergy tested" because an allergy test does not give the consumer any real security. The problem with allergy tests is that it is very difficult to set rules for how products should be tested in order for the result to be useful.
Each type of product must be tested in a different way depending on the product's area of use.
Some products must be tested for many years before the allergy risk can really be assessed.
TexCare uses experts in the field when products are to be declared. If there are substances that are known to be allergenic, and/or substances in concentrations that are assessed as risky from an allergy point of view, the product will not be provided with the TexCare Allergy label.
The TexCare Allergy label signifies a thorough evaluation process for each product. Throughout its existence, the labeling system has always prioritized consumer interests.
NOTE: ACCORDING TO THE DANISH ASTHMA AND ALLERGY ASSOCIATION, ONLY PRODUCTS THAT DO NOT CONTAIN PERFUME CAN BE LABELLED: "PREVENTS ALLERGIES".
